An honorary sign topper is a decorative metal sign that is installed on top of the existing standard green and white street name identification signage. Honorary street sign toppers recognize the contributions and/or significance of distinctive neighborhoods and community leaders in Sacramento.
FoCM applied for and was granted permission to create and install a historic sign topper to demarcate the boundaries of the Capitol Mansions Historic District in July of 2018. The association commissioned art work from a FoCM member and the signs were submitted to the City for production and installation. The project was funded entirely by donations from the FoCM members.
If you have any questions or comments about the honorary street sign toppers or wish to purchase a commemorative sign for your home, please contact Sue Mortensen.
The Capitol Mansions Historic District sign toppers were installed in September 2018. A ceremony was held during the Preservation Sacramento Historic Home Tour to mark the occasion and reveal the sign toppers to the public.
Bill Burg, President of Preservation Sacramento, Vice Mayor Steve Hansen and Carson Anderson, Preservation Director for the City of Sacramento were present for the ceremony, coordinated by Board Members Athol Wong and Sue Mortensen.
