THE SAFE WAY TO KEEP OUR ALLEYS CLEAR OF HOUSEHOLD JUNK

In our urban environment, and many of us without driveways or sidewalks, it can be difficult to know how to dispose of household waste, while still keeping our alleys and streets safe for pedestrians.

If you see piles of waste that pose a danger to residents or contribute to blight, we encourage you to use the following City resources:

For Residential Addresses

  • Call 311 or (916) 264-5011 and report the waste and location
  • Submit a report online at www.sac311.org
  • Use the Sac311 App on your phone or tablet
  • Our 311 operators work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so you can submit your requests at any time during the day.

For Commercial Addresses

  • Call Waste Compliance at (916) 808-4846
  • Email Waste Compliance at  wastecompliance@cityofsacramento.org
  • Note it can take 3-10 business days for Waste Compliance to respond to issues.

If you have your own unwanted furniture, electronics and other household items that you wish to dispose of, here are some helpful resources to help you do it quickly and safely:

Appliance and E-Waste Pickups

All residential customers can make two appointments for appliance and e-waste collection in a calendar year. The appliance and e-waste program operates year round. Additional information is available at: http://www.cityofsacramento.org/Public-Works/RSW/Collection-Services/Garbage/Appliance-and-E-Waste-Pickup

Household Junk Pickup

All residential customers can make two (2) appointments per year for the free pickup of acceptable bulky items including yard waste. Free Household Junk Pickup occurs from February through October. Additional information is available at: http://www.cityofsacramento.org/Public-Works/RSW/Collection-Services/Garbage/Household-Junk

Furniture Donations

Salvation Army:  https://satruck.org/

Local Drop Off  Locations:

  • Salvation Army Donation Dropbox, 1615 D St., Sacramento, CA  95814
  • Salvation Army Store/Donation Dropbox, 315 16th St., Sacramento, CA 95814

Goodwill Industries

5117 Folsom Blvd & 51st Street

Sacramento, CA  95819

Mattress Disposal

Residents can drop off their old mattress at no-cost at a participating collection site or recycling facility.  California law requires retailers that are delivering new mattresses to offer consumers the option to have a used mattress picked up at the time of delivery, at no additional cost.  Additional information is available at: https://www.byebyemattress.com/programs-by-state/california/

Waste Wizard

The City has created an easy to use Waste Wizard to help residential customers sort their waste properly.  Some materials are “banned” from the disposal in garbage cans and instead an appointment can be scheduled for material pickup or drop-off materials at a local facility. This tool is available at http://www.cityofsacramento.org/Public-Works/RSW/waste-wizard
